How to Find Working DNS Resolvers

Last updated 03 May 2026 16 views 📡 📡 SlipNet — Anti-Censorship Tunnels

Why You Need This

In Iran and other censored countries, the default DNS servers (like Google's 8.8.8.8 or Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1) are often blocked or filtered by your ISP. SlipNet's DNS tunnel protocols need working DNS servers to establish a connection. If the DNS servers are blocked, the tunnel can't start.

SlipNet includes a built-in scanner that tests hundreds of public DNS servers and finds which ones are reachable from your current network.

How to Scan for Working Resolvers

  1. Open the SlipNet app on your Android device
  2. Tap the Settings icon (gear icon, usually in the top right)
  3. Find and tap DNS Resolver Scanner
  4. Tap Scan
  5. Wait for the scan to complete — this typically takes 1-2 minutes
  6. The app will display a list of working DNS resolvers, sorted by speed (fastest first)
  7. Note the top 2-3 fastest resolvers — you'll need these IP addresses for the next step

Tips

  • Run the scan while connected to the network you'll actually use (home Wi-Fi or mobile data)
  • Different networks may have different working resolvers — a resolver that works on your home Wi-Fi might not work on mobile data
  • If the scan finds zero working resolvers, try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data and scanning again
  • Resolvers can change over time — if your connection stops working, re-run the scan to find new working ones

Next Step

Once you have a list of working resolvers, follow the guide "How to Set Global DNS Override in SlipNet" to configure them in the app.
