How to Set Global DNS Override in SlipNet
What is Global DNS Override?
Global DNS Override tells SlipNet to use specific DNS servers instead of the defaults. This is essential in countries like Iran where default DNS servers are blocked or filtered. Without this setting, your DNS tunnel connection will fail because it can't reach any DNS server to establish the tunnel.
How to Set It Up
- Open the SlipNet app
- Go to Settings (gear icon)
- Find the DNS section
- Enable Global DNS Override (toggle it on)
- Enter the working DNS resolver IP addresses from your scan
- You can add multiple resolvers separated by commas (e.g.
185.51.200.2:53, 78.157.42.100:53) - Tap Save
Format
Enter each resolver as an IP address followed by the port number, separated by a colon. The standard DNS port is 53. For example:
185.51.200.2:5378.157.42.100:53
Multiple resolvers can be separated by commas. We recommend adding at least 2-3 resolvers for redundancy.
When to Update
If your SlipNet connection stops working after it was previously working fine, the most likely cause is that your DNS resolvers have been blocked or changed. Re-run the DNS Resolver Scanner and update the Global DNS Override with the new working resolvers.
