Getting Started with Encrypted Vault

What is Encrypted Vault?

Encrypted Vault is PremierVPN's zero-knowledge file storage service. Files are encrypted in your browser using AES-256-GCM before they ever leave your device. We store only encrypted blobs — we cannot access your files, your passphrase, or your encryption keys under any circumstances.

How It Works

  1. Set a passphrase — when you first open the Vault, you choose a strong passphrase. This derives your encryption key using PBKDF2 with 100,000 iterations. The passphrase never leaves your browser.
  2. Upload — when you select a file, your browser encrypts it with AES-256-GCM before uploading. The encrypted blob goes directly to our storage infrastructure. It never passes through our application servers.
  3. Download — when you download a file, the encrypted blob is fetched directly to your browser and decrypted locally using your passphrase.

Setting Up Your Vault

  1. Log in to the PremierVPN portal at portal.premiervpn.net.
  2. Click Vault in the left sidebar.
  3. If you don't have a subscription, you'll see the plans page. Choose a plan and complete the checkout.
  4. On your first visit, you'll be asked to set a vault passphrase. Choose something strong — at least 8 characters, ideally much longer.
  5. Your vault is ready. Upload your first file by clicking the Upload button.

Critical: If you forget your vault passphrase, your files cannot be recovered by anyone — including PremierVPN staff. We do not store your passphrase. Store it securely in a password manager.
