Creating a Share Link

  1. Hover over a file in your vault and click the share icon (purple).
2. A modal appears with sharing options:
    • Password protection (optional) — the recipient must enter this password before they can download.
    • Max downloads — how many times the link can be used (unlimited, 1, 5, 10, or 25).
    • Expiry — when the link stops working (24 hours, 3 days, 7 days, or 30 days).
  3. Click Create Share Link.
  4. A purple banner appears with the share URL and a Copy button. Copy the URL and send it to the recipient.

What the Recipient Sees

The recipient opens the link in their browser. If password-protected, they enter the password first. Then they see the file name, size, and a Decrypt & Download button.

They must enter your vault passphrase to decrypt the file. The decryption happens in their browser — the file is downloaded as an encrypted blob from storage, decrypted locally, and saved as the original file.

Important: Share the Passphrase Separately

The share link gives access to the encrypted blob. The recipient still needs your vault passphrase to actually decrypt and use the file. Never send the passphrase in the same channel as the share link. Use a different method — text message, phone call, or in person.

Managing Shares

Files with active share links show a purple badge with the share count. Share links can be revoked at any time by the owner.

Your plan limits the number of active share links you can have: 25 for Vault Pro, 100 for Vault Business.
