PremierVPN for iPhone and iPad connects with one tap, and Auto mode finds a protocol that works on whatever network you're on. This article gives you an overview of the app, its protocols and its main settings.
What you need
- An iPhone or iPad with iOS 17.6 or later
- A PremierVPN account. You can sign in with an existing account or create one in the app.
Download and sign in
- Install PremierVPN from the App Store, or use the App Store button on your Downloads page.
- Tap Sign in and enter your portal email and password, the same login you use at portal.premiervpn.net. If two-factor authentication is on, enter the 6-digit code.
- Tap Allow when iOS asks to add a VPN configuration, and confirm with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode.
- Choose whether to allow notifications, and pick a style: Glass or Signal.
- Tap the connect button on Home.
New to PremierVPN? Tap Create account on the Welcome screen and subscribe in the app. App Store subscriptions are billed through your Apple ID.
Signed up with Google or Apple on our website? Set a password first: sign in to the portal, go to Settings › Portal Password and set one, then use your email and that password in the app.
Protocols and Auto mode
Choose a protocol on Home (Auto · WireGuard · Stealth) or in Settings › Protocol. Tapping Stealth lists AmneziaWG, REALITY, xHTTP, CDN and Stealth relay. Most people should leave it on Auto.

How Auto works: it tries WireGuard®, then AmneziaWG, REALITY, xHTTP, CDN and Stealth relay, and keeps the first one that really carries traffic. It remembers what worked on each Wi-Fi network and tries that first next time.
iOS can't use a kill switch with REALITY, xHTTP or CDN. The app tells you on Home, in Settings and on the Security tab when one of these is in use. If you need the kill switch, use Auto, WireGuard, AmneziaWG or Stealth relay.
Locations
The Locations tab (called Servers in the Signal style) lists 30+ locations. Search by city, country, hostname or two-letter country code, and tap a star to add a favourite.
- All: every standard location, grouped by region
- Direct: connects by IP address instead of server name, for networks that have trouble looking up our servers
- Favourites: locations you've starred
- Dedicated IP: your dedicated IPs, plus the option to add one. Dedicated IPs always connect with WireGuard.
- VLESS: VLESS servers grouped into REALITY, xHTTP and CDN
Security tab
The Security tab runs live checks and tells you in plain words what is and isn't covered: your current IP, kill switch status, which DNS you're using and whether it's in the tunnel, the encryption in use, and a speed test.
Settings
- Kill switch: on by default. Works with WireGuard, AmneziaWG and Stealth relay.
- Auto-connect: Never (default) or Always, plus options to connect when the app opens and reconnect after a drop or a network change.
- DNS: DNS leak protection (on), an ad blocker (off), and a choice of resolver.
- Style: Glass or Signal, and an accent colour.
- Diagnostics: app version, the last error, the speed test and Export logs for support. Logs hold connection events and errors only, not your browsing.
- Account & plan: your plan, dedicated IPs, two-factor status, VPN username, Sign out and Delete account.
On iPad, the app uses the extra space: Glass has a sidebar with Overview, Locations, Dedicated IP, Security and Settings.
Quick troubleshooting
- Can't connect on this network: tap Find a working connection, which switches to Auto. If you chose a protocol yourself, try AmneziaWG, then REALITY, then CDN, or another location.
- Connected but websites don't load: try another location or protocol. If you changed DNS or turned on the ad blocker, set DNS back to PremierVPN in Settings › DNS.
- iOS asked to add another VPN configuration: that's expected the first time you use AmneziaWG or VLESS. The app adds up to three entries in iOS Settings › VPN and switches between them for you.
- Kill switch says "Not used": you're on REALITY, xHTTP or CDN, which can't use it.
- Can't sign in: check you can sign in at portal.premiervpn.net with the same email and password. Tap Forgot password? if you need to reset it.
- Change or cancel a subscription: if you subscribed in the app, Apple manages it: open iOS Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. If you subscribed on our website, manage it in the portal.
